Ausoftware — Bacup, Lancashire — software since the spreadsheet broke

Ausoftware brush-script wordmark

Somewhere in your business is a system a developer half-built and then stopped answering emails about. Everyone works around it. Nobody will touch it. We finish those — and we build the next one so it doesn't happen to you twice.

Why we exist

The last developer left. We get that call a lot.

Ausoftware started because of a spreadsheet. A joinery firm outside Rawtenstall ran its whole order book on one, and the man who wrote the macros retired to Spain. Nobody could open the pricing tab without breaking it. They rang us on a Tuesday, half apologising for how daft it sounded.

It wasn't daft. It was ordinary. We rebuilt that order book, then did much the same for a haulier, a dental group and two accountancy practices, and the pattern was always identical. None of them had been let down by bad code. They had been let down by code that nobody maintained, nobody documented, and nobody was left to explain.

So we work the other way round. We don't sell digital transformation, and we won't quote for a platform when a process change would do. We don't hold source code hostage: every line we write lands in your repository, under your account, from the first day. And if something off the shelf already solves your problem, we will name it, tell you what it costs, and invoice you for the hour it took us to find out.

Most estates look like this on the inside. We draw the map before we touch anything.

If nobody left can maintain it, it isn't finished.

What we build

The work, and what it costs

Tap anything below and it carries through to the form at the bottom of the page. You'll get a written scope back, not a day rate.

Prices are a starting point, not a menu. Every quote is fixed in writing after a scoping call, and it stands for thirty days. No day rates, no open-ended hours, no surprise change requests for things we should have asked about at the start.

Recent engagements

Five jobs we can talk about

Client names stay out of it — most of this work sits inside somebody's back office and they'd rather it stayed there. The numbers are the part that matters.

9 days Joinery order book · Rossendale One retired macro-writer, four thousand live orders and a spreadsheet nobody dared sort. Rebuilt as a small web app, staff trained on the Friday, running on the Monday.
£31,400 Annual licence bill, removed A haulier was paying per seat for three tools that overlapped. We replaced the overlap with one integration and they cancelled two contracts at renewal.
17 mins Month-end pack · was two days A dental group's reporting ran on four exports and a lot of copying and pasting. Same figures, same accountant, one scheduled job that emails itself.
Zero Unplanned outages, 14 months A booking platform doing roughly nine hundred transactions a week. No cleverness involved — monitoring, tested backups and dull, unfashionable infrastructure.
6 weeks Sketch to first paying customer A logistics idea drawn on the back of a delivery note, built as a billing product with real invoices going out. It is still live. We still maintain it.

Next step

Tell us what's broken.

Half an hour on a call, no slide deck, no discovery workshop invoice. If we're the wrong people for it we will say so on that call and point you at someone who isn't.
